M-T Gross Features

Looking slightly caudal in the neuraxis, the heart-shaped thalamus (from the Greek for 'inner chamber') can be seen surrounding the the small third ventricle at the brain's core. Just ventral to the thalamus, lies the hypothalamus. Because the angle of this view is slightly posterior, the lateral fissure here separates the parietal lobe from the temporal lobe.
